A new convenience food store, operated by the Co-op, is planned to serve the growing population of Whitfield.
The proposal, by a company called Standard Homes, is to provide the single-storey new shop in Archers Court Road, Whitfield opposite the access to Cranleigh Drove.
Agents for applicants Standard Homes submit the convenience store, creating 20 jobs, will provide a turnover of an estimated £2.75 million a year. Yet, say the agents, it will have very limited impact on other shops in Whitfield or in Dover.
Although the proposal of a new shop is being welcomed by some there are objections to the siting opposite the junction with Cranleigh Drive.
One comment, from Mr Marc Baker, is: “This proposed convenience store is not convenient in its proposed location or thoughts for others.”
