The following are the terms of reference for the Environment Committee, as agreed by the Dover Society Executive Committee;
The Environment Committee works to improve the appearance, cleanliness, accessibility, and overall environmental quality of Dover and its surrounding rural areas. The committee identifies issues, supports local initiatives, and takes action where it can make a positive and practical difference.
Meetings & Communication:
The Environment Committee meets monthly at the Dover smART Gallery, 7 Bench Street, Dover CT16 1JH.
- Members also communicate and share updates through a WhatsApp group.
Areas of Focus:
The committee continues to focus on:
- Town appearance and public realm
- Cleanliness and litter
- Rights of way and public access
- Tourism and visitor experience
- Environmental concerns raised by residents
- Supporting and promoting local environmental projects
- Encouraging participation from rural parishes within the Dover Society area
Current Projects & Ongoing Issues:
- Seafront Light Poles (Eastern Docks): The committee continues to follow up on the six rusted lamp posts on the seafront, two of which are missing lights. The issue is currently with Kent Highways, and we are seeking a new contact at Crown Estates to progress the matter.
- Public Reporting: We encourage members and the public to report issues directly to Dover District Council: You can follow these links

- Project Visibility: Many of the committee’s projects are displayed on the Passion 4 Dover site, maintained by a member of the team. Anyone passionate about these projects is encouraged to join and contribute.

The committee works closely with:
- Pam Brivio, Dover Town Council “Walkers Are Welcome” promoter (also a committee member)
- Kelly Green, Town Centres Manager, Dover District Council
- Chris Townend, Growth & Development, Dover District Council
- Local Kent Police
- Town, District, and KCC councillors
- Other community groups and volunteers
Membership:
The Dover Society includes many rural areas around the town, and we welcome new members from these communities to ensure their voices are represented.
